“Empowering Joyful Learning Through AI: Multimodal Pathways in Language Education”

Hui-Chin Yeh
Professor, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Taiwan

This presentation explores how generative artificial intelligence (AI) can empower joyful learning in English education by opening new multimodal pathways for teaching, learning, and assessment. Rather than replacing pedagogy, AI acts as an enabler that expands educators’ capacity to design engaging, student-centered learning experiences. Through innovations such as interactive picture books, karaoke-based activities, and adaptive language exercises, AI supports creativity, inclusivity, and sustained motivation while meeting diverse learner needs.

By streamlining lesson design, customizing instructional content, and offering real-time feedback, AI facilitates deeper language acquisition and greater learner autonomy. Grounded in the principle of joyful learning, these practices shift the focus from test-driven instruction toward holistic development that integrates playfulness with rigor.

The presentation also emphasizes the importance of professional development to prepare educators for ethical, inclusive, and effective AI integration. Positioned as a catalyst for innovation, AI holds the potential to redefine language education—making it more responsive, immersive, and joyful, while paving the way for transformative learning experiences in the future.
